Phantoms is a horror novel by American writer Dean Koontz, first published in 1983. The story is a version [1] [2] of the now-debunked [3] urban legend [4] involving a village mysteriously vanishing at Angikuni Lake.

I thought I would cleverly evade their horror-or-starve ultimatum by making Phantoms something of a tour-de-force, rolling virtually all the monsters of the genre into one beast, and also by providing a credible scientific explanation for the creature’s existence.
