Communities use the maps to set minimum building requirements for coastal areas and floodplains; lenders use them to determine flood insurance requirements.

8 lip 2020 · Flood Zones. Flood hazard areas identified on the Flood Insurance Rate Map are identified as a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). SFHA are defined as the area that will be inundated by the flood event having a 1-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year.
Zones C & X are at a lower risk of flooding, though not entirely without risk. Flood insurance is recommended. Learn more about Zones C and X. High Risk. Zones A, AE, AH, AO, AR and A99 are high-risk flood areas, due to proximity to a pond, stream, river or protective barrier under construction.
Moderate flood hazard areas, labeled Zones B or Zone X (shaded) are the areas between the limits of the base flood and the 0.2-percent-annual-chance (or 500-year) flood, and are also shown on the FIRM. Zone X is identified by the following:
