26 cze 2009 · While Poyer hints in his SKS book that there's some connection between serial codes and manufacturing dates, he stops short of making any firm conclusions. Meanwhile, a member on Survivor's SKS Boards compiled serial numbers and correlated them with the log books that shipped with some Yugo SKSs in order to crack the serial number codes.
To be fair, identifying and appraising an SKS is not always the easiest of tasks, but it is very doable if you know what to look for. This guide will show the easiest ways to determine an SKS’ country of origin and what you should generally expect to pay for one in the current market.
The Yugoslavian M59/66 rifle will usually have the serial number marked in eight locations. The first six are visible with the rifle fully assembled: Left side of the receiver.
The Albanian SKS is dated using the numbers on the left side of the receiver. The year is actually stamped into the receiver. Note after the serial number there is a dash and then the last two digits of the year.
