Violence against women is a global public health problem that has serious adverse effects on women’s physical, mental, and reproductive health. It is increasingly recognized as a public health issue because of the expanding evidence base and growth of research documenting the magnitude and health effects of violence against women.
Globally 1 in 3 women experience physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime, mostly by an intimate partner. Women who experience violence are more likely to face physical including sexual and reproductive health and mental health consequences.
