Winchester 231 is a ball powder, one of the most popular handgun propellants in history. It is ideally suited to 38 Special, 45 Auto, and 9mm standard loads. Consistency, clean burning, low flash, and a broad range of applications make this powder a choice for any handgun cartridge loader.
2 mar 2013 · I have been experimenting with four different pistol powders: Bullseye, Blue Dot, 231 & Unique for four different pistol calibers: 9MM, 10MM, 40 S&W & 45 ACP. I use a Dillon powder measure for progressive loading and a Lee Perfect Powder Measure for manual drop loads.
3 cze 2017 · The range of velocities you are seeing is not altogether unusual for ball 45ACP ammo. Differences in case length, seating depth (ogive variations), and PM variations are likely to play a role. The reloading data for W231 is not likely to be aggressive lol.

I do believe that Winchester's data is very conservative. Many older manuals list loads even higher than what I show here.
Trail Boss is new for the .45 ACP, but it shoots very well with a lead bullet (you can use jacketed also) and is quite mild but works the slide well in loads I have tested so far. The almost standard bullet is the 230 grain round nose (lead, jacketed or plated), since it feeds so well in autos.
