3 sie 2018 · Where Do Camels Live? Bactrian camels are native to Central Asia. Camels are easily recognized because of the distinctive deposits of fat in their backs known as "humps". The camel is associated with desert climate, a feature that earned it the title “ship of the desert”.
Camels have long been domesticated and, as livestock, they provide food (camel milk and meat) and textiles (fiber and felt from camel hair). Camels are working animals especially suited to their desert habitat and are a vital means of transport for passengers and cargo. There are three surviving species of camel.

There are almost 14 million Dromedary camels alive today that are domesticated animals, mostly living in Somalia, Sudan, Mauritania and nearby countries. The Bactrian camel once had an enormous range, however, it is now reduced to an estimated 1.4 million animals, mostly domesticated.
