The new technical component codes separate the services in several ways. A new code, 95700, is for electrode application and related service initiation. Beyond the set-up code, 3 dimensions define code details. The first dimension identifies whether or not the service uses video with the EEG.

27 maj 2020 · There is a key differentiation between studies that are reported at the end of 12 or 24 hours and then studies that are reported at the end of a multi-day study. For the first 24 hours, it is clear which code should be used, either 95719 (EEG only) or 95720 (EEG and video) . For a 48-hour study, there are two options:
Technical Services. Long-term EEG Setup. 95700. Electroencephalogram (EEG) continuous recording, with video when performed, setup, patient education, and takedown when performed, administered in person by EEG technologist, minimum of 8 channels. (95700 should be reported once per recording period)

NAEC has been working with AAN, ACNS, and AES to provide summaries of the coding changes, webinars, and an analysis of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule’s treatment of the new codes.
