Van Horn History. Travelers crossing the Chihuahuan Desert in Far West Texas have long been greeted by the familiar sight of Van Horn and its surrounding area. Even before the town's establishment, the Van Horn Wells were already well-known among those who frequented the region.
Established in the late 1800s as a railroad town, Van Horn sits at the intersection of Interstate 10 and US 90, some 120 miles southeast of El Paso.
