The University of Texas Bands is internationally recognized as one of the premier collegiate band programs in the United States. Led by a team of five faculty members, the program consists of The University of Texas Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and Symphony Band, as well as the Longhorn Band, Longhorn Pep Band, and Longhorn Concert Bands.
The Longhorn band—known as the Showband of the Southwest—was founded in 1900 and is the largest sprit organization on campus. LHB is a year-round program offered for course credit. Activities begin in August with Band Week and continue through university graduations in late May.
