Ulysses (/ j uː ˈ l ɪ s iː z / yoo-LISS-eez, UK also / ˈ j uː l ɪ s iː z / YOO-liss-eez) was a robotic space probe whose primary mission was to orbit the Sun and study it at all latitudes. It was launched in 1990 and made three "fast latitude scans" of the Sun in 1994/1995, 2000/2001, and 2007/2008.
6 paź 1990 · Ulysses made nearly three complete orbits of the Sun during more than 18 years in service. The probe made many important discoveries including a weakening of the solar wind over time. An illustration of the joint ESA-NASA Ulysses spacecraft.
Ulysses – sonda kosmiczna NASA i ESA, przeznaczona do badania rejonów biegunowych Słońca, wyniesiona w kosmos na pokładzie promu kosmicznego Discovery w locie STS-41 w dniu 6 października 1990 roku.
6 paź 1990 · The Ulysses spacecraft was designed as a five-year mission to study the never-before-examined north and south poles of the Sun. Far outliving its planned mission lifetime by 13 years and collecting treasure troves of data on solar wind, interstellar dust and the three-dimensional character of solar radiation, Ulysses became one of the most ...
6 paź 1990 · Ulysses was the first mission to study the environment of space above and below the poles of the Sun. Its data have given scientists their first look at the variable effect that the Sun has on the space around it.
Ulysses, joint European-U.S. space probe launched in 1990 that was the first spacecraft to fly over the poles of the Sun and return data on the solar wind, the Sun’s magnetic field, and other activity in the Sun’s atmosphere at high solar latitudes.
30 cze 2009 · PASADENA, Calif. -- Ulysses, a joint NASA and European Space Agency mission, officially ceased operations today, after receiving commands from ground controllers to do so. The spacecraft, which operated for more than 18 years, charted the unexplored regions of space above the poles of the sun.
