Thanos is a lone wolf tragic hero. Even with the gauntlet, he's proven that he's not very smart in regards to how to best utilize the gems. Darkseid on the other hand is a multiversal cosmic god. Unless Thanos is willing to destroy the concept of evil and tyranny, then he's unable to kill Darkseid.
Nah, Thanos may not die but he's still stuck in the omega sanction. Plus recent darkseid is practically the right hand (or left hand I don't know) of the darkness in DC. So he still wins.
