Nazwa pochodzi od filmu Paris, Texas w reżyserii Wima Wendersa. Muzyka do tego filmu, kompozycji Ry Coodera, zainspirowała do założenia zespołu i powstania pierwszego albumu Southside w 1989 roku.
Texas is a Scottish rock band from Glasgow, founded in 1986 by Johnny McElhone (formerly of the bands Altered Images and Hipsway), Ally McErlaine, and Sharleen Spiteri (on lead vocals). Texas, despite their name, has no connection with the state of Texas, USA. Texas made their performing debut in March 1988 at the University of Dundee.
