Established in 1921 by the New York State Legislature, the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System (NYSTRS) provides retirement, disability and death benefits to eligible New York State public school teachers and administrators.
Visit the New York City Teachers' Retirement System at nyctrs.org. Your tier depends on when you first joined the retirement system. Under the existing Retirement & Social Security Law all teachers and teaching assistants who joined on or after Sept. 1, 1983, are in Tier 4.
