This is a list of Southwest Conference champions. * – Denotes shared title. Notes: No official champion in 1944 due to World War II. Tiebreakers: 1943 – Texas and Texas A&M tied with a 2-2 record against each other. 1951 – Texas A&M advanced to NCAA tournament based on 2-1 record against Texas.
The SWC's performance in football declined precipitously. The last SWC football champion to win a bowl game was Texas A&M, who beat Notre Dame in the 1988 Cotton Bowl Classic by a score of 35–10. Since then, the final eight SWC champions lost in their bowl games.

Football, the premier sport from start to finish, produced seven national champions: SMU, 1935; TCU, 1938; Texas A&M, 1939; Arkansas, 1964; and Texas, 1963, 1969 and 1970. Those three UT national titles were the gems of Darrell Royal's 20 years as Longhorns coach, a career which saw him post the SWC's best winning percentage of .774 (167-47-5).
This is a list of yearly Southwest Conference football standings. Baylor forfeited claim to co-champion for using ineligible player. [1] Arkansas's games against Ole Miss, Centenary, and LSU counted in the conference standings. Because of an ineligible played used by Arkansas, no championship was awarded.

23 mar 2019 · SWC teams have won eight national championships. In 1940 the conference entered into an agreement with the Cotton Bowl that allowed the SWC champion to be the host team every year; the 1995 Cotton Bowl, however, marked the final year of this structure.
