The Nebraska Legislature [1] (also called the Unicameral) [2] is the legislature of the U.S. state of Nebraska. The Legislature meets at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln. With 49 members, known as "senators", [3] the Nebraska Legislature is the smallest U.S. state legislature.
Nebraska was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1867, and elects its United States senators to class 1 and class 2. George W. Norris was the state’s longest serving senator (served 1913–1943). Nebraska's current senators are Republicans Deb Fischer (since 2013) and Pete Ricketts (since 2023).

Senators' Duties. The state is divided into 49 legislative districts, each home to approximately 40,000 people. Senators are elected to four-year terms and receive a salary of $12,000 a year. A single Legislature exists for two years, called a biennium.
