The Constitution of Pennsylvania is the supreme law within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. All acts of the General Assembly, the governor, and each governmental agency are subordinate to it. Since 1776, Pennsylvania's Constitution has undergone five versions.
Constitution of 1874. The Constitution of 1874 was adopted November 3, 1873, by a Constitutional Convention which was called pursuant to the act of April 11, 1872 (P.L.53, No.42). The Constitution was ratified at a special election held December 16, 1873, and went into effect January 1, 1874.

Pennsylvania has had five state constitutions. The current state constitution has 11 articles. The current Pennsylvania Constitution has been amended 44 times. Voters last approved a new amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution on May 18, 2021, when voters approved four constitutional amendments.
