The History of St. Joseph in Red Deer. On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, our school officially opened during our grand opening ceremony. While St. Joseph is one of the newest schools in Red Deer, the name has deep historical roots in the community.
Red Deer was an area where a high population of Métis people settled and connection to the land was important to their culture. First Nations in the area traditionally believed in a mythical bird that looked similar to the Falcon and was an important symbol in their spirituality.

St. Joseph High School. Our Schools. Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools serves over 10,650 students in 21 schools in Red Deer, Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, Rocky Mountain House, Innisfail, and Olds. It also supports the learning of over 850 students in a Home Education Program.
In partnership with the City of Red Deer, the school provides major recreational and cultural services, including a large facility for the Red Deer Royals Marching Band, the largest track and field and competitive soccer fields used by the city.
