28 paź 2020 · The trick is to stop using the RAID drive through the RAID driver, expose the SSD as a JBOD, re-mount the filesystem, and then TRIM it there. Once it DISCARDs the blocks, simply put the drive back in RAID mode, mount the filesystem, and then restart your applications.
30 lip 2019 · Take the removed drive to another machine with AHCI support and format the drive there and TRIM it. Put it back and rebuild the array from the second disk of the degraded array. Repeat the process with the second drive.
25 kwi 2017 · It supports TRIM for drives NEXT TO a RAID, not IN a RAID. For example, you have 2 1TB drives in RAID, and then a SSD by itself, all three drives connected to the Intel chipset. The intel controller would be in RAID mode, but the SSD itself was not in a RAID.
You can use my MDTRIM script ( https://github.com/Cyberax/mdtrim/) to TRIM empty space on ext4/3 level-1 RAIDs. We start it periodically from cron and it works great for us. Adding support for other RAID levels is possible, but I don't have time (or need) for that.
6 mar 2013 · 14.04 is the first release to enable TRIM support out-of-the-box but it's trivial to enable on previous distributions, provided you are using kernel 2.6.33+. Depending on your chosen filesystem, you can enable trim/discard by editing your fstab and setting the appropriate mount option.
Some Intel storage controllers will pass TRIM to SSDs, when the controller is in RAID mode, and some hard drives are RAIDed. However, at the moment, the SSDs must not be in RAID in order to receive TRIM. This will also depend on the specific SSD(s) you plan to buy.
