For 12 years Rosemary Smith worked as a telephone operator for the law firm Sidley, Austin, Brown and Wood on the 57th floor of the North Tower. Smith survived the February 26, 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
Over the next 25 years Sidley & Austin grew to rank consistently as one of Chicago's largest law firms and opened offices in other cities around the country. In 1999, it merged with competitor Brown & Wood to become Sidley, Austin, Brown & Wood LLP.
