If you are covered by another health insurance plan that complies with UC’s waiver criteria, then you may apply for a waiver. If the student's waiver application is approved, then the UC SHIP fees will be credited on the campus billing account usually within seven (7) to ten (10) business days.
On the waiver home page, click on the ‘Waive’ button from the “I Already Have Insurance” section. Enter your insurance information and attach your required insurance documents.
Waiving Coverage. To waive UC SHIP coverage, you must have other health insurance coverage that meets the university’s health insurance requirements, described in the waiver criteria below. You must submit a waiver application prior to the start of each new academic year to waive coverage that year.
Application for UC SHIP waiver is completed online and submitted electronically. UC utilizes Academic Health Plans (AHP), a 3rd party vendor, to manage waiver processing and plan enrollment. To access the vendor’s waiver portal, visit the Waiving UC SHIPpage on SHC’s website (https://shc.uci.edu/insurance/waiving-ship).
At the beginning of each term, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will confirm USHIP waivers. Students who are offered UCI Grant and then waive out of the (USHIP) will have their UCI grant offer reduced by an equivalent amount.
You can waive UC SHIP coverage if you already have a health plan that meets the University’s health coverage requirements.
