Tucked away in the 63,000-acre Shawnee State Forest, the park is located within the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. With two lakes and easy access to the Ohio River, the park is full of boating and fishing activities.
Welcome to the Shawnee Trail Runs. The Shawnee Trail Run features a 50 Mile, 50K, and 13.1 Mile loop through Ohio's remote wilderness. Join us for Ohio's most challenging ultramarathon. The 50 Mile has over 11,000 feet of elevation gain in its near-single loop course. The 50K boasts over 6,500 feet of elevation gain in one pure loop.
SHAWNEE STATE FOREST TRAILS. The Shawnee Backpack Trail winds through wilderness area, and includes portions of the Buckeye Trail and North Country Trail. Take the 40-mile main loop or a shorter trek around the 23-mile North Loop or 17-mile South Loop.

This park has some wonderful hiking trails. One starts at the lake and goes around it in a round about fashion. The trail starts wide and paved and quickly becomes narrow, rocky and steep. It is fun but you can easily walk 2 or 3 miles and still have more to go if you are not careful.
