28 sie 2010 · For a null cable (to connect to the computer to access BASH shell, or do serial PPP), it is reversed compared to the STB cable; pin 2 to tip, pin 3 to sleeve, with a female DE9 plug. I have built all cacaphony of serial cables for TiVo serial PPP, and my other projects, including serial over Cat5.

20 paź 2006 · The serial cable that comes with tivo has the pinouts reversed as needed to hook up to a computers serial port. Unless you made your own cable you likely need a null modem adapter that will correct the pinouts.

So the TiVo has a serial connector at the back (SERIAL a 3.5mm stereo jack). Besides controlling other equipment with this (ie. a Satellite reciever) we can also use this port for accessing the "Backdoor" or a shell (shell as in a dos-look-a-like thingy).
If you have a satellite receiver with serial control capability, connect the control cable from the Serial connector on the receiver to the Serial connector on the DVR. Otherwise, connect the IR control cable to the IR connector on the DVR.
Write down the serial number (or other information that the cable provider may need) of each CableCARD decoder. Insert the first CableCARD decoder into slot 1 (the bottom slot) on the back of the TiVo DVR.
