2d gen’s engine, 2AR-FE, is one of Toyota’s most reliable 4 cylinder engines, arguably one of the most reliable 4 cylinders ever made, and their transmissions are great as well. The 2nd gen tC uses the same engine and tranny as the Camry of the time, and as with all toyotas, reliability with everything else is great also.

It's essentially a 2 door Camry, so it's plenty reliable. The transmission may not be the best if you're into track days or whatever, but it should be fine. Overall it's a fine car, there are better options such as a Fiesta ST, etc. but if you're looking for comfort and proven reliability go for it. 15.
