Sam Bass was an American Western outlaw who was finally gunned down by the Texas Rangers. Bass left his Indiana home at age 18 and drifted to Texas, where in 1874 he befriended Joel Collins. In 1876 Bass and Collins went north on a cattle drive but turned to robbing stagecoaches; in September 1877.
