Referencing is an important part of academic writing. It tells your readers what sources you’ve used and how to find them. Harvard is the most common referencing style used in UK universities.
Referencing styles. Each referencing style has different rules for presenting source information. For in-text citations, some use footnotes or endnotes, while others include the author’s surname and date of publication in brackets in the text.
The full reference of in-text citations appears in the reference list. In Harvard referencing, in-text citations contain the author (s)’s or editor (s)’s surname, year of publication and page number (s). Using an example author James Mitchell, this takes the form: Mitchell (2017, p. 189) states.. Or (Mitchell, 2017, p. 189)
