Founded in 1949 by Elena Aldrete “Mama” Lopez as Houston’s first woman-owned café post World-War II, it soon became the post-set destination of local rockers. As it happened, jam sessions broke out at the cafe and set the tone of what would be one of the longest standing music venue in Houston.
