Quitman is a city and the county seat of Wood County, Texas, United States. [5] Its population was 1,942 at the 2020 census. The city was named for John A. Quitman, a veteran of the Mexican–American War, and once governor of Mississippi. [2]
The City of Quitman is the county seat of Wood County, in Upper East Texas. Situated at the intersection of Highways 37 and 154, it lies 35 miles north of Tyler, and 27 miles south of Sulphur Springs. Its population is over 1,900 residents as of the Federal Census of 2020.
