Pumps are operated in parallel when two or more pumps are connected to a common discharge line and share the same suction conditions. Water pressure boosting applications use, for example, pumps from the CR range to ensure steady flow through a common discharge line.
Operating pumps in series increases the overall pump system's head (or pressure), while pumps in parallel enhance the flow rate. The main advantage of series operation is improved pressure performance; parallel operation benefits are a higher volume of fluid pumping.
