Overview Symptoms Treatment. The quadriceps tendon is located just above the kneecap (patella) and connects the quadriceps muscles in the front of the thigh to the top of the kneecap. The patellar tendon is located just below the kneecap. It connects the kneecap to the shinbone (tibia).
Quadriceps tendonitis is inflammation of the quadriceps tendon where it attaches to the top of the kneecap. It is the most common cause of pain above the knee. In the early stages of quadriceps tendonitis, strain and overuse results in small tears in the tendon.
