Ossabaw Island is one of the Sea Islands located on the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the U.S. state of Georgia approximately twenty miles by water south from the historic downtown of the city of Savannah.
At approximately 26,000 acres, Ossabaw Island is Georgia’s third largest barrier island, located 30 minutes south of Savannah on the Atlantic coast. Nearly 9,000 acres are high ground; the remainder are tidal wetlands.
16 mar 2016 · Ossabaw Island is rich in natural and cultural history. It is the first Georgia Heritage Preserve. You will find beautiful, pristine beaches where the shelling is amazing and you can spot sea turtle nests (in season). Wildlife abounds because there are so few people and buildings, and Sandy West has made sure the island hasn't been developed.

One of the largest of Georgia’s barrier islands, Ossabaw contains 9,000 acres of wooded uplands with freshwater ponds. 16,000 acres of the Island consist of marshlands interlaced with tidal creeks. No bridge or causeway links Ossabaw to the mainland.
Ossabaw Island is established as Georgia’s first Heritage Preserve, set aside for natural, scientific, and cultural research and education. Eleanor West receives a life estate of the family home and immediately surrounding grounds and outbuildings.
