The Orem City Council voted tonight to let residents decide whether the city should form its own school district and split from the largest district in the state. Orem leaders commissioned a Comprehensive Feasibility Study in February 2022, and the results of that study were presented to the Council on July 12.
13 mar 2024 · While the conversation about splitting the state’s largest school district has been going on for at least two decades, the issue is particularly raw in Orem. In 2022, residents voted on a ballot initiative to break off from Alpine and create their own district.
The district includes all grades from kindergarten through high school (K-12). As of 2018, there were 58 elementary schools, 14 junior high schools, 11 high schools, and 9 special purpose schools [1] serving approximately 78,659 students, [2] making it the largest school district in Utah.
