MyPlate replaced the Food Guide Pyramid, which was made before the internet. With the advancement of technology, MyPlate takes what we’ve learned from the Food Pyramid and now provides a personalized approach to healthy eating to help you meet your goals.
Start simple by choosing foods with less sodium. Check the Nutrition Facts label and choose foods with a lower percent (%) Daily Value (DV) for sodium on the label, especially if a family member has high blood pressure, diabetes, or kidney disease. Cook at home!

The most recent update of the Dietary Guidelines came out in 2020, and it uses an updated MyPlate visual model. The 2020 MyPlate model, shown below, shows a plate containing the five food groups (fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains, and dairy) in a place setting [1].
