New Mexico has 33 jails in 33 counties. The jail population in 2020 was 7,270. The Prison System. As of December 31, 2020, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of New Mexico correctional authorities was 5,500 located in 7 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails.
The New Mexico Corrections Department maintains a searchable public database of all of the inmates they have in custody. In addition, the offender search contains information about prisoners, parolees, and probationers who are currently under supervision, and who have been discharged.
