The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) sets the standards for the accreditation of teacher preparation programs in the US. The standards cover six unit standards and 14 program standards, as well as the accreditation process and decisions.
NCATE is a nonprofit coalition of national associations that accredits institutions for teacher preparation. NCATE standards focus on candidate performance, assessment, and improvement based on data and evidence.
The NCATE Unit Standards are the basis for the on-site review of the unit conducted by the Board of Examiners team. They identify the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions expected of educational professionals, as well as the organizational structures, policies, and procedures that support candidate learning.
