History. Mount Pleasant was founded May 11, 1848, to serve as county seat for Titus County, which was created by a legislative act on May 11, 1846. Until after the Civil War, Titus County also included the territory of present-day Franklin and Morris Counties.

1 kwi 1995 · By 1885 Mount Pleasant had a bank, three churches, steam flour mills and cotton gins, a weekly newspaper, and a population of 800. From 1908 to 1915 the town was known as a resort because of red mineral springs nearby.
History. Northeast Texas was originally inhabited by Caddo Indian tribes. By the 1830s pioneers began to arrive and settle in what is now Mount Pleasant. The name is attributed to the Caddo Indian burial mounds and their reference to the area as “Pleasant Mound.”
History The Mt. Pleasant school was officially organized in the spring of 1898 when the Lake View community was divided. The first school building was a very small one room building located just a few yards from the Dye lake about three miles south of the present Lakeview school house.

By 1960 more than half of the county's population lived in the two largest towns, Mount Pleasant (8,450) and Talco (1,250).
