Minnesota are required to display Minnesota-based license plates. Intrastate vehicles may be registered and plates obtained at any deputy registrar’s office located throughout the state. Registration fees are determined by the gross vehicle weight and model year of the vehicle. A USDOT number is required.
Persons providing transportation described in section 221.025, clause (2), must comply with the rules for driver qualifications; hours of service of drivers; driving of motor vehicles; parts and accessories necessary for safe operation; and inspection, repair, and maintenance.
The new rule replaced Hours of Service regulations last updated in 2003. As in the 2003 regulations, the new rule prohibits truckers from driving more than eleven hours in a row, working longer than 14 hours in a shift, and driving more than 60 hours over a seven day period or 70 hours over an eight day period.
