MLA Page Number Format. In MLA format, page numbers appear in the top right-hand corner with a 0.5-inch margin from the top and a flush right margin. It is good practice to include your last name before the page number in case pages go astray. Do not use the abbreviation p. before the page number or add any other mark or symbol.

MLA General Format. MLA Style specifies guidelines for formatting manuscripts and citing research in writing. MLA Style also provides writers with a system for referencing their sources through parenthetical citation in their essays and Works Cited pages.
It should properly attribute any ideas, paraphrases, or direct quotations to your source, and should direct readers to the entry in the Works Cited list. For the most part, an in-text citation is the author’s name and the page number (or just the page number, if the author is named in the sentence) in parentheses:
A standard MLA in-text citation includes the author’s last name and a page number in parentheses. The page number refers to the exact location of the quote or information that you are citing: 66% of voters disagree with the policy (Smith 13). If the author is already named in the sentence, you only need to include the page number in parentheses:
Any time a different work is cited in MLA, there must be an in-text citation that includes the author’s last name and referenced page number, if applicable. This information can be included in parenthesis at the end of the sentence or in the normal flow of the sentence.
