A real gem with incredible historical significance. The only documented Wisconsin stop on the Underground Railroad, it features a tunnel between the inn and the pioneer cabin where escaped slaves hid between the two buildings. The inn is the oldest grout building in America, and its original owners founded the city of Milton and Milton College.
The Milton House Museum is proud to be the last authenticated stop on the Underground Railroad that can still be toured in Wisconsin. We take great pride in sharing the rich and unique history of not only the Milton House, but also the Milton Community.

The Milton House Museum. Itinerary. The hexagonal-shaped Milton House was opened in 1844 as a stagecoach inn by Joseph Goodrich, and is one of the oldest standing poured grout buildings. It was a stop on the Underground Railroad, with a tunnel connecting the Milton House to a log cabin.
