The Texas Medical Board consists of 12 physician members and seven public members appointed for six-year terms by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. The full Board convenes five times a year.
The Texas Medical Board issues a full unrestricted medical license to qualified physicians to practice medicine in Texas. Applicants who do not qualify for a full medical license may qualify for a limited license or permit.
The Licensure Department licenses physicians, physician assistants, acupuncturists, and surgical assistants; issues physician-in-training permits; registers non-certified radiologic technicians; and certifies acudetox specialists, pain management clinics, and non-profit health organizations.

Registration/Renewal. All physicians, physician assistants, acupuncturists and others licensed by the TMB to practice in Texas are currently required to register regularly with the board, and pay a fee. Registration fees and renewal periods vary according to license type.
