The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (also known as the State Department of Assessments and Taxation, or SDAT) is a customer-focused agency that works to ensure property is accurately assessed, business records are appropriately maintained, and necessary tax-related information is conveyed to state agencies and local jurisdictions.

  3. In Maryland, there are more than two million property accounts. The Department of Assessments and Taxation must appraise each of these properties once every three years. There are 24 local State assessment offices, one in each county and Baltimore City.

  4. The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation administers and enforces the property assessment and property tax laws of Maryland. Maryland's 23 counties, Baltimore City and 155 incorporated cities issue property tax bills during July and August each year.

  5. These instructions will help you locate your property information on our real property data system. You can search the online database by either the address, street name, account identifier or map reference. You can not search by owner's name, town, neighborhood, subdivision or zip code.

Most common examples are agricultural use, recipients of homeowners' tax credits, rezoned property assessments, and properties subject to a forest conservation management agreement.

  7. Appointed by the Governor, the Director of Assessments and Taxation administers and enforces the property assessment and tax laws of Maryland. The Director supervises assessment of all property in the counties and cities so that taxable property is assessed uniformly statewide.
