José Luis Alberto Muñoz Marín (February 18, 1898 – April 30, 1980) was a Puerto Rican journalist, politician, statesman and was the first elected governor of Puerto Rico, regarded as the "Architect of the Puerto Rico Commonwealth."
Luis Muñoz Marín was a statesman who served four four-year terms as the elected governor of Puerto Rico. Early in his career he advocated independence for the island, but later he worked for its social and economic progress in partnership with the United States.
