The Student Unions of C&G and of Imperial College flourished rapidly after a boost from the Links Club. In more recent times, the Club has had a reputation for boisterous events in the pursuit of its pleasures. Membership is by election, based on Sportsmanship as defined by the members at College.

Co-founded by Charles Blair Macdonald of 'Ballyshear' in Southampton, the club's purpose is to promote the best interests of the game of golf. The building began life as two c. 1890 residences that were eventually combined.
One of the most elite golf clubs in the world, the Links is where die-hard golf players go to eat and socialize. Charles Blair Macdonald, a golf champion and founder of the United States Golf Association, started the Links in 1917 as a place where powerful members of the golf world could keep the true spirit of the game alive.
The enterprise took Carl and Anne around the world and was completed before the internet made finding ones roots easier. Once finished, they organised a reunion in New York and Germany for more than 140 family members worldwide.
