Final thoughts. IFRS 16 does contain changes that have an accounting impact on lessors. In particular, lessors should be aware of the new guidance on the definition of a lease, lease term and lease payment, separation of components, subleases and the accounting for sale and leaseback transactions.

The standard provides a single lessee accounting model, requiring lessees to recognise assets and liabilities for all leases unless the lease term is 12 months or less or the underlying asset has a low value.
