Hull Identification Number. Although non-motorized canoes and kayaks are exempt from many registration and labeling standards, all canoes and kayaks manufactured after 1972 are still required to have a Hull Identification Number (HIN).
Hull Identification Number. This number can be found towards the stern of the kayak, on the back starboard (right hand, if facing the bow/front) side. It is the identifying number of the vessel (a combination of letters and numbers, 12 in total), and is required for registration and titling purposes.
To locate your kayak's serial number look at the right (starboard) side on the back (stern) of the boat on the outside of the hull. Most, but not all boats, have a recessed area here. Your serial number will always be in this area.
