Holgate arose when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was constructed through the county. Andrew Weaver began business there in 1873 and plotted the village the first year that the trains were run. Texas is another old village which was also on the Miami and Erie Canal and is a sister town to Florida — both in Henry County.
