17 wrz 2021 · The analysis reveals some worrying trends concerning the average adult height in India. While between NFHS II and III, the average height of women across age groups improved significantly, it showed a decline between NFHS III and IV in the age group of 15 to 25 years.

While the average height of men around the world increased by 5%, the percentage change varies worldwide, with the greatest relative increases in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. In women, the largest relative increases were seen in Europe, South America, and East Asia.
Figure 1 shows the relationship between mean height and age for men and women in India in 2005–2006; the two scales differ only by a shift of 10 cm, so that the slopes of the two curves are in the same units. The sharp rise on the left to a peak shows that people reach adult height in the early 20s.
The rate of increase was much lower for height than weight, which was reflected in an increasing trend in BMI across all birth cohorts. In the stratified analyses, increase in height was found to be similar across urban and rural areas.
