The UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) is a global collaboration to improve the lives of older people and their communities. WHO leads the implementation of the Decade and supports countries to address four action areas, four enablers, and cross-cutting issues related to healthy ageing.
WHO works with Member States, UN agencies and diverse stakeholders from various sectors to foster healthy ageing in every country. Healthy ageing is defined as developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables well-being in older age.

Today, most people can expect to live to 60 years and older. A person aged 60 years at the beginning of the Decade of Healthy Ageing could expect to live, on average, an additional 22 years. There is, however, great inequity in longevity according to social and economic grouping.
