In astronomy and astrobiology, the habitable zone (HZ), or more precisely the circumstellar habitable zone (CHZ), is the range of orbits around a star within which a planetary surface can support liquid water given sufficient atmospheric pressure.
The definition of “habitable zone” is the distance from a star at which liquid water could exist on orbiting planets’ surfaces. Habitable zones are also known as Goldilocks’ zones, where conditions might be just right – neither too hot nor too cold – for life.
10 mar 2021 · In our solar system, Earth sits comfortably inside the Sun’s habitable zone. Broiling planet Venus is within the inner edge, while refrigerated Mars is near the outer boundary. For larger, hotter stars, the zone is farther away; for smaller, cooler stars, it can be very close indeed.

The Sun’s habitable zone stretches from just beyond the orbit of Venus and just about encompasses Mars. The star in the famous TRAPPIST-1 system is a cool red dwarf and so its habitable zone is wrapped closely around it.
