3 dni temu · Sea ice loss has far-reaching effects on the planet because the ice helps regulate Earth’s climate, influences global weather patterns, and affects ocean circulations. Sea Ice Today began as a way to make sea ice science and analysis more relevant and accessible.

30 paź 2024 · Color-coded map of the daily sea ice concentration in the Northern Hemisphere for the indicated recent date along with the contours of the 15% edge during the years with the least extent of ice (in red) and the greatest extent of ice (in orange) during the period from November 1978 to the present.
Sea ice extent provided by the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) is available from 1979–2024 for the Globe, Northern Hemisphere, and Southern Hemisphere.
The daily Sea Ice Index provides a quick look at Antarctic-wide changes in sea ice. It provides consistently processed daily ice extent and concentration images and data since 1979. Daily extent images show ice extent at concentrations greater than 15% for a given day with an outline of the typical extent for that day based on a 30-year (1981 ...
Sea Ice Extent. The sea ice extent data for the Arctic and Antarctic are provided by the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) and are measured from passive microwave instruments onboard NOAA Satellites. The sea ice extent period of record is from 1979–2023 for a total of 45 years.
June 2023 sea ice extent, globally, was 860,000 square kilometers (330,000 square miles) less than the previous record low from June 2019. The Arctic sea ice extent for June 2023 ranked as the 13th smallest in the satellite record at 10.96 million square kilometers (4.23 million square miles).
Visualize sea ice extent (area of ocean with at least 15 percent sea ice concentration) data for the Arctic and Antarctic. View and compare sea ice extent data for any year or any combination of years from 1979 to present (including near-real-time daily data).
