Hi everyone, I dropped my zune 30gb too many times and the hard drive died, so I bought a replacement hard drive on ebay, opened it up and replaced the hard drive, but the software won't recognize it, so I came here and noticed posters mentioning formatting the drive.
To Erase all contents of the zune ; Connect zune to pc; on the zune software click settings\click device\sync options\erase all contents. To Restore the player;
Format Device from the Zune software (All devices): Go to Settings > Device > Sync Options > Then click the "erase all content" button. Sleep Mode: Zune HD: Press the power button once. Zune HD: To power off, hold the power button for 3 seconds then pull down on the screen saver.

29 lis 2010 · The zune software and device use the ID3 tags for data, as do most if not all mainstream devices and apps. If you are going to put the effort in, do so on the tags, not the file names. In fact, using a good tagger like MP3Tag (free) you can set it up to use file names to apply tags, and vice versa... which can be a great time saver.
I was syncing my 120gb Zune and updating it (installing games) when the Zune program said "sync unsuccessful" and my Zune displayed a "5 Contact Support" screen. Now it won't turn on, play any media, or sync with my computer.
The iFixit guide for removing a Zune 30GB hard drive took me through most of the process without a problem, though I did find some important insight in the comments. Furthermore, the guide neglected a few final steps at the very end.
